Michelle Boerio Spotlight

Michelle Boerio

Written by Liv Barton, August 2025

“Art is like a language,” Michelle Boerio says.

Her work has been exhibited across the world at the Academic Dei Fisiocritici in Siena and across the States. Her work is rooted in place, exploring countless corners of our world.

She mainly creates paintings using oil, acrylic, and watercolor. She also plays around with collaging and makes artists books. Her wide range of work demonstrates her talent. Her artist books contrast her canvas paintings. Her work Old October features many black and white images, with a hint of color here and there. The lines are sharp and defined, whereas her canvas paintings offer a soft, yet vivid image. Both are beautiful in their own right. The freedom she feels when creating art manifests in the art itself. Every brush stroke, color placement, blended edge comes together to create a harmonious painting.

Boerio fully embraces the creative process and creating art as it comes to her. She allows herself full freedom to play, oftentimes “in nature, with nature,” she says. She often works big to small, starting with big blocks and then working down to more fine details with brushes. She utilizes layering to create depth and bring a nuance to the piece. She uses rich and vibrant colors to illustrate the most idyllic locations that seem unreal.

“People get to build community really easily in art,” Boerio spreads her knowledge and talent throughout central Ohio. Currently, she’s balancing her time between teaching classes at numerous places, such as the Franklin Park Conservatory, Bryn Du, and the Columbus Museum of Art. Previously, she taught at the Wexner Center for the Arts and has worked as a garden educator at the Franklin Park Conservatory
